The TOTO Japan Classic is the only official Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour event held in Japan. The 2025 tournament will proceed as scheduled, bringing together 78 of the world’s top players from both the LPGA Tour and the JLPGA Tours for an intense and thrilling showcase of competition. As in 2024, the tournament will take place at Seta Golf Course in beautiful Shiga Prefecture.
Last year's unforgettable finale saw Rio Takeda claim victory in a dramatic six-hole playoff just before sunset-securing her place on the U.S. Tour.
This year, we look forward to witnessing new moments of brilliance and drama unfold. The event will be thoughtfully organized to ensure that as many fans as possible can enjoy the excitement of live tournament golf. We warmly welcome large crowds to the gallery and invite you to experience the passion of the sport up close.
In closing, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the LPGA, the JLPGA, and all those who make this tournament possible through their dedication and support. We wish every player the very best of luck on the course.
First staged in 1973 as the LPGA Japan Classic, this official tournament has welcomed the world’s best players ever since. It was later played under the titles LPGA Mizuno Japan Golf Classic, Mazda Japan Classic, Toray Japan Queens Cup, and Mizuno Classic before adopting the name TOTO Japan Classic in 2015. The 2025 championship is the fifty‑first playing of the event.
Notable moments in tournament history include:
• 1987 – Ayako Okamoto finished runner‑up and became the first non‑American to win the LPGA Tour Official Money Title.
• 1996 – Mayumi Hirase earned her maiden victory on the LPGA Tour.
• 1998 – Hiromi Kobayashi claimed her second LPGA win of the season.
• 2001 to 2005 – Annika Sorenstam captured the title five years in a row, an LPGA record.
• 2007 – Momoko Ueda’s victory secured the exemption that allowed her to compete full time on the LPGA Tour the next season.
• 2018 – Nasa Hataoka, in her second LPGA season, recorded a homecoming victory at fourteen under par.
• 2024 – Rio Takeda and Marina Alex tied at fifteen under par, and Takeda sealed her first LPGA triumph with a birdie on the sixth hole of a sudden‑death playoff as darkness approached.
Having long served as a bridge between the LPGA and JLPGA Tours, this event offers a homecoming stage for Japanese players pursuing success on the LPGA Tour. Another chapter will be written this year.
CME Globe points are awarded to LPGA Tour members based on their performance in each event from the start of the season, with 500 points to the winner, 320 points to the runner-up, 230 points for third place, down to 1 point for 80th place. Major championships will carry 30 percent more value.
Players near the top of the points standings secure berths in the elite‑field Asia Swing in the fall as well as in the season‑ending CME Group Tour Championship, where the winner earns a $4 million winner’s share. The season‑long points champion also receives a $1 million bonus.
